October Hill Magazine is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides a platform for new and unpublished authors. Our team consists entirely of volunteers who dedicate their time towards fulfilling their passion for publishing and being a resource for authors. By joining the OHM team, you will gain insight into how an online literary magazine sources, reviews, and manages submissions. We provide hands-on training opportunities, including critiquing, copyediting/proofreading, and refining short stories and poetry. Team members may apply their hours towards internship/college credit.

Communications Coordinator (Volunteer/Intern)
October Hill Magazine seeks an intern to take on the functions of Communications Coordinator. The Communications Coordinator will work directly with the Managing Editor to execute the Magazine's communication strategy and to post new information and critical updates on the Magazine's social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, and TikTok.
This role will require approximately four to five hours or less of work per week. The Communication Coordinator's role will include creating graphics; researching popular hashtags to increase awareness; crafting 25- to 100-word messages to expand awareness of the Magazine; and overseeing the Magazine's blog, including assigning, creating, and managing content.
October Hill Magazine was created as a platform for new and aspiring authors of short stories and poetry. The magazine has since broadened its offerings to include book reviews, photography, and illustrations.
General Overview of Duties
- Under the supervision of the Managing Editor, create a schedule of posts for the OHM social media channels.
- Tailor social media posts according to the specific platforms and audiences.
- Create graphics via Canva for social media posts.
- Have a basic understanding of hashtags and other methods to increase reach and exposure.
- Schedule social media posts using scheduling software such as Buffer, Hootsuite, etc.
- Report statistics to the Managing Editor weekly, monthly, and quarterly.
- Maintain the OHM brand (voice, style, color, etc.)

- Canva
- Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud a plus but not required
