Submission Guidelines
SHORT STORIES
Please refer to the OHM Style Guide before submitting you work.
Writers may submit one work between 1,000-3,500 words in Microsoft Word format per issue. The text must be formatted in black ink, 12 pt Times New Roman. Additional works will not be read. Simultaneous submissions to more than one publication are acceptable. But it is the responsibility of the writer to notify October Hill Magazine immediately if their work is accepted for publication elsewhere.
Be sure to include your name and the title of your work on the document’s opening page and your name on the top left-hand corner of every page. Please indent all paragraphs and single-space after periods.
In addition, please provide an autobiographical thumbnail sketch of 50 words or less, describing your literary works, background and/or interests.
To submit, click on the submit button to fill out the submission form. We no longer accept submissions via email. We also do not accept submissions sent by regular or express mail.
SOME IMPORTANT NOTES FOR ALL AUTHORS
October Hill Magazine will not publish any material of a pornographic, erotic or abusive nature; gratuitous profanity; or gratuitous descriptions of violence or abusive remarks toward women, members of any religious or ethnic group, people of any sexual orientation, or animals. Any material violating these guidelines will automatically be rejected for publication.
We seek to publish new and imaginative work. All authors who submit their work for consideration represent to us that they are the sole original authors of that work; that the work has never appeared in another publication, either in print or online (including blogs); and that they shall hold October Hill Magazine blameless for any violation of copyright law unknown to the editors of the magazine at the time of publication. Authors further agree to grant October Hill Magazine the right to reprint all short stories or poems accepted for publication in any future anthology or collection of work for a period of up to one (1) year. After such period, the exclusive copyright reverts to the author.
If we accept your work for publication, we will edit to correct typographical and spelling errors and grammatical mistakes, but will respect the content and literary style of your work. Written work laden with a careless disregard for spelling, punctuation and grammar will be rejected automatically.
October Hill Magazine does not compensate writers or illustrators accepted for publication. However, writers are encouraged to submit their work for consideration when we have another Contest Issue, in which those selected for awards will receive monetary prizes and special recognition.
